Camera Equipment

With the focus being on landscape, and Astrophotography you will ideally need to cover a focal length of 16-400mm.

Landscape

The landscapes on this trip mostly require mid- and telephoto focal lengths as a lot of it is vast, rolling dune landscapes, which look best when compressed with a longer lens. Expect to use your mid-range lens and a ND filter.

Astro

This trip has been planned to fall perfectly around the winter solstice new moon - as most of the scenes face West, there are not many compositions that allow an astro shot with the evening milky way. For only this brief period of the year, one can shoot a bright galactic core setting on the western horizon in the early morning hours. Having a dedicated astro-lens with a focal length as wide angled (14mm- 24mm ideally) as possible with as fast of an aperture as possible (f/1.4- f/2.8 ideally) will make a huge difference to your low light, astrophotography images..

Shipwreck Seascapes

The shipwrecks will be a subject in what is a typical seascape shoot. Bring along your full filter kit including polarizer, ND's and grads. You will not only use it for this, but for most of the sunset/sunrise shoots.

Panoramas

This section of the desert is panorama paradise with its sweeping views. Make sure you have a solid tripod with a spirit level or leveling base.

Tripod

A lot of the shooting is done on sloping dunes, so it is critical that you have a tripod with some extra length.

Keeping Your Gear Clean

Expect a lot of sand and wind - keeping your gear clean in this environment can be challenging. We advise that you keep your bodies and lenses in individual dust bags within your camera bag to protect it from sand blowing into the camera bag. Bring a paint brush and be ready for a daily gear clean session.

WHAT TO WEAR

Namibia has a semi-desert climate, hot during the day and cold at night. In view of this scenario, it is important to be

prepared and bring cooler clothes to wear during the day and warm coats and clothes for the night photography

sections. It is also recommended to wear clothing with sun protection, especially when staying in the Namib Desert.

Preferably, use medium / high boots to protect the ankle and prevent excessive sand from entering the shoes.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Passport / identity card valid for international travel;

Negative PCR Test not older than hours.

The national currency is the Namibian dollar (NAD). It is recommended to take US dollars and make the exchange

at the airport or city of Windhoek.

Visa / MasterCard credit cards are widely accepted but it is good to have cash as well.

YOUR PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY GUIDE  EDWARD EMORY.

Hello, I’m Edward Emory Frye. I am a professional photographer born, raised and based out of Santa Barbara, California. I capture moments in time and aspire to share the beauty I see with the intent of bringing joy and inspiration to others around the world, so that my images will be looked upon fondly and reminisced upon, forever.

I have always had a camera in my hand, from my earliest memories of borrowing my father’s camera as a child to receiving my very first film camera as a birthday present when I was 15 years old. I have always needed to capture the world around me. This fire and creative momentum within only grew with time. It became so powerful; it became the sole purpose I left college while studying Neuroscience at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. I knew my heart was dedicated to my art and I had to respect that- So I left. Then began my journey of becoming a true photographer. I ate, breathe and slept with the art form and in 2017, after having 3 successful art gallery exhibitions along with purchase inquiries, I made the leap, headfirst into the vast professional photography realm: All the while learning what it meant to be a professional photographer while running a successful business. I allowed that momentum to flourish. And it’s paid off ever since- having my work exhibited in art galleries around the world: From California to Washington DC, Athens, Greece, and twice in Barcelona,Spain.

I have since spanned the Northern and Southern hemispheres of Earth two and a half times over since May of 2018. After being 1 of 50 individuals in the world selected by the creators of the wildly successful photography app, PhotoPills, I flew to the middle of the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Spain to the island of Menorca. I had the privilege to experience a once in a lifetime opportunity: learning the techniques and becoming friends with some of the greatest master photographers in the world like: Albert Dros, Michael Shainblum, Elia Locardi, Ian Norman, Eric Paré & Kim Henry, Francesco Gola and more. I have taken their lessons and combined my unique skills and knowledge on how to become a successful professional photographer, traveling around the globe ever since.

I don’t take photographs, I capture moments. Everyone can take a photograph, not everyone can capture a moment.

YOUR LOCAL GUIDE, RICHARD MORSBACH

Hi my name is Richard Morsbach, I have had the privilege of growing up in this magnificent Desert country called Namibia. Both my father and grandfather worked for Nature Conservation throughout Southern Africa and passed down a lot of their knowledge, wisdom and passion for nature and this desert environment with me, each time we went out camping, hiking or traveling into the unknown hidden locations of Namibia. As a young boy I loved playing outdoors, exploring all caves, hills, and any mountain I could possible find, always out looking for a new adventure or challenge to conquer no matter how impossible it seemed. Sometimes I wonder how my mother managed to control my wild adventure spirit and still get me to focus on school work. The adventure seeking passion just grew stronger over the years and led my heart to pursue adventure sports. I have gained various professional qualifications and over fourteen years of experience in many different adventure sports from rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking, skydiving, kayaking, caving, trail running and many more. In turn I have been working as a tour guide for close to 8 years through these different sports where ever the opportunities arouse. As I've always had a camera in hand while out on various tours its in turn lead me to a deep passion for Photography and over the years I've gained a lot of experience, skill and an eye for capturing those amazing moments.

As a guide I enjoy sharing my knowledge and skills with those around me.

All of this in turn lead to my deep passion for the outdoors, nature and sense of adventure, now it is my privilege to guide people through our magnificent country so that you in turn can experience the amazing uncharted hidden locations and learn some of the secrets about what makes this desert country so unique and help you enjoy the journey of a life time, for each Adventure is actually just a element of the amazing journey of life where all strangers are just amazing friends you have not yet met and enjoy theses priceless moments and memories with. Looking forwards to meeting you, getting to know what your passions are and build another amazing life long friendship.
